Edible Garden Weeds of Canada
Published in Paperback by University of Chicago Press (Trd) (June, 1978)
Average review score:

Best book on edible weeds in my libraryThe format of this little book lets you carry it in your pocket easily. It is well organized and the illustrations make the plants easy to recognize. Only the best-known weeds are reviewed and most of them can be found all over the world. I would therefore recomment this book non-Canadians as well.
Every plant is covered under the following headings:
All the names, Latin & common
How to Recognize
Where to Find
How to Use
Suggested Recipes
More of Interest
I would also like to point out that Nancy Turner is the co-author.
In Canada, this title can be found in every public library.

Elora Gorge: A Visitor's Guide
Published in Paperback by Boston Mills Press (August, 1995)
Average review score:

A fine guide to the gorge. The Elora gorge is located in the town of Elora, Ontario, Canada, just northwest of the city of Guelph. Kenneth Hewitt's "Elora Gorge: A Visitor's Guide" is not a visitor's guide in the conventional sense but rather is a field guide to the geology, geography, and paleontology of the gorge. The book describes the geological history of the gorge area, from its origin 410 million years ago as a system of reefs and lagoons in a tropical sea, through the birth of the gorge itself at the close of the last ice age, to the present. It discusses the various fossils to be found there, primarily of reef-building organisms and shellfish. It also presents three walks through the gorge. For each walk Dr. Hewitt identifies sites of special interest and explains their geological or paleontological meaning. One of the best aspects of this book is its integration of scientific exposition with the descriptions of the gorge's features so that the visitor can understand the meaning of what he sees. If you are planning to visit the gorge and want to understand what you observe, this book will be a valuable asset.

The Embrace (Prose Series 55)
Published in Paperback by Guernica Editions (30 May, 1999)
Average review score:

A MUST READ for First Generation LithuaniansI absolutely loved this book! In 150, fast moving, well-written pages Irena Guilford manages to capture the first generation Lithuanian experience PERFECTLY. She not only demonstrates a profound understanding of the common guilt and responsibility that Lithuanian exiles felt, and still feel, for their homeland and the loved ones left behind, (and for the "true" or "new" Lithuanians who have come to the America's, post 1990, with their feelings of resentment at having been left behind the Soviet curtain to suffer, both physically and economically)but for her generation, my generation, caught between these two worlds. Belonging to both -- to neither. Anyone who grew up first generation Lithuanian, will think that this jewel was written specifically about them!

Empire of Dust: Settling and Abandoning the Prairie Dry Belt
Published in Paperback by University of Calgary Press (September, 2002)
Average review score:

Tracing the inevitable result of over-expansionEmpire Of Dust: Settling And Abandoning The Prairie Dry Belt by David C. Jones (Professor of History, University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada) is an impressive compendium of Canadian agricultural history. Tracing the inevitable result of over-expansion in towns such as Alderson, Alberta, Empire Of Dust is a real-life cautionary tale of the dangers of depleting the land to the point where it can no longer nourish the livestock and the people. Carefully researched, engagingly presented, and, enhanced with black-and-white photography, Empire Of Dust is very highly recommended reading and a welcome addition to Agricultural Studies and Canadian History reference collections.

Major historical events and their repercussionsEnhanced with a new introduction by Christopher Moore, this University of Toronto Press trade paperback edition of The Empire Of The St. Lawrence: A Study Of Commerce And Politics by the late Donald Creighton (1902-1979) reintroduces to a modern readership a truly scholarly work addressing the rise and fall of a Canadian trading empire from 1763 to 1850. Individual chapters address major historical events and their repercussions in the region of the lower lakes, the conflict between commerce and agriculture, and much more. Organized into three principal sections (The First Unity of the St. Lawrence; Transition in the Region of the Lower Lakes; The Struggle for the Second Commercial Empire), and enhanced with "Bibliographical Note" and "Notes" sections, The Empire Of The St. Lawrence is a meticulously researched, college-level source book, that continues to be recommended for academic reference collections as a definitive and seminal work.
